When I first took an interest in model railways some years ago now, it was at a time just prior to Bachmann introducing their Branchline range of British outline railway models. Suddenly, in comparison to these new Bachmann models, Hornby locomotives looked like children's toys rather than realistic scale models. I'm pleased to say that over recent years things have changed and many of the recent offerings from Hornby can finally be classed as 'scale models', at times surpassing the best of Bachmann.

Hornby's class 60 locomotive is one of the company's more recent releases and benefits from the company's production being transferred to China. This is a superb model, probably one of Hornby's best ever. It just looks right to the eye and feels right in the hands. With the addition of digital sound this superb loco has got even better. Digital sound-fitted locomotives are not cheap but this one is so good that I had to have two of these and use one to provide the sound option on my 60 007.
