HELJAN 5808
CLASS 58 DIESEL, 58041, 'RATCLIFFE POWER STATION'
RAILFREIGHT RED STRIPE LIVERY

I've always liked the class 58
loco's and in my time on the railways I always enjoyed working
on them although when starting a heavy load they could slip on a
sandy beach! If ever we had a class 58 then at some point during
the shift you would almost certainly be outside throwing
handfuls of sand on the track to get enough traction to be able
to haul a loaded train out of a colliery yard or siding.
Despite that they are one of my favourite diesel loco's and the
Heljan model, even with its faults, is one of their very best to
date. It is a substantial model that feels nice and heavy when
handled and it looks perfectly right which is so important.
There have been a few silly errors or mistakes in production but
nothing that really detracts from the finished model and nothing
that couldn't be remedied without too much trouble.
I was lucky to get my example at a discount price and I consider
it to be an absolute bargain. Fitted with a Bachmann DCC chip it
needs a fair bit of power to get it started but it will pull
just about anything.
I'm so pleased with this one that I might just be tempted to get
hold of another!
